Benjamin Dessauvagie is a histocytopathologist, Lead Breast Pathologist, Head of Cytology, and Medical Director at Clinipath Pathology, a subsidiary of Sonic Healthcare Australia, and a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia. Perth born and bred, he completed his Bachelor of Medical Science and MBBS at the University of Western Australia in 2006, followed by two years of hospital based clinical training across metropolitan and regional Western Australia. He then pivoted to Anatomical Pathology, having realised his professional interests lay in solitude, basements, and pattern recognition under the microscope. He undertook Anatomical Pathology training in Western Australia, achieving Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) in 2013. He subsequently completed two years of advanced subspecialty training, including a year at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (UK) in 2015, focusing on breast pathology and cytopathology. Since returning to Perth in 2016, he has divided his time between diagnostic service work, teaching, RCPA committee and quality activities, research, and is a technical assessor for NATA across both the public and private sectors. In his spare time, he recently completed a Masters of Health Administration at Monash University.
