I am Dr Da Wei (David) Thong, a General Surgeon with a real passion for colorectal disease, surgical oncology, and minimally invasive surgery. I’m research-driven, and my work has focused on rectal cancer, anastomotic technique, and what recovery actually looks like for patients after surgery - function, quality of life, and getting outcomes right. One of my main interests is enhanced recovery, and my current “pet project” is ambulatory colectomy: building and testing a safe ambulatory discharge pathway in Western Australian public hospitals. I’ve presented at national meetings and published across colorectal and oncology topics, and I’m also heavily involved in surgical training through teaching and simulation workshops.
